Palladian-style windows. A Colonial Revival home is usually larger than its earlier counterpart and the features
tend to be exaggerated or oversized.
The east side of the clapboard mansion features a large porte cochere under which carriages could drive to drop off or pick up their passengers. Various architectural details, which are typical of the Colonial Revival style, abound on both the exterior and interior of the house. On the exterior, the house features multi-pane sash windows, paneled shutters, large brick chimneys with decorative ornamentation, as well as prominent porches with classical moldings. In addition, a lovely elliptical fanlight and sidelights with leaded tracery grace the front door. A large Palladian window lights the hall upstairs above the front door, while another graceful fanlight decorates the third floor in the front gable of the house.
The west side of the house features numerous sash windows overlooking the lake and another large, inviting
porch. The gable roof on the west side has two large dormers embellished with Palladian-style windows.
Unit 1:
The original impressive front entrance hall to the house serves as the entry to this unit. The front hall is dominated
by a wide, dramatic set of stairs leading to the upstairs (upper) floors. The stairs are embellished by sets of three
differently carved balusters on each tread. Beautiful crown moldings as well as wide moldings around each door
further add to the grandeur of the room. A massive fireplace in the front hall is flanked by lovely carved
scroll-shaped console brackets that support the mantle. Centered below the mantle is a carved wooden panel depicting a bowl of fruit.
Upstairs:
The unit boasts beautiful wide 6-panel doors surrounded by their original wood moldings. Most of the doors feature their original glass knobs. Hardwood floors are found throughout the house. A focal point of the upstairs room is the gracious fireplace and carved wooden mantle with an overmantle that was meant to set off a picture placed within it.
Unit 2:
A coffered ceiling in the front room highlights the entrance to Unit 2. The living room features a fireplace with a mantle decorated with shallow reeds and a classical motif. Pilasters flank each side of the opening. The room retains its beautiful wooden moldings surrounding the arches and doorways.
Upstairs:
The second floor master bedroom in this unit retains its lovely original fireplace. Pilasters surmounted by carved urns flank the fireplace. The fireplace in the sitting area will be gas and feature classical detailing. As in the other units, the original 6-panel doors with glass knobs remain throughout.
Unit 3:
The east entrance room to this unit is embellished with details that reference Tudor English architecture. Tudor style arches decorate the tall wooden paneling (wainscoting) which surrounds the room. The same arches are mimicked in the fireplace. The room also incorporates very large crown molding.
A gracious fireplace and mantle are the focal point of the living room. Brackets and classical pilasters support the simple shelf mantle. Tall pilasters surmounted by decorative acanthus leaf capitals surround the room. Two sets of French doors lead out to the porch and the lakeside lawn beyond.
Upstairs:
The upstairs of this unit also has a lovely original fireplace featuring decorative medallions. A striking fanlight which mimics the one over the front entrance door and looks easterly towards Camel's Hump highlights the third floor.
